US sanctions are having a direct impact on the Russian satellite industry, according to Igor Kot, the deputy general director for marketing and business planning at Gazprom Space Systems (GKS).
Quoted by Comnews and AKTR, he added that the project that is currently suffering the most is the Yamal-601 satellite, which is being manufactured by France’s Thales Alenia Space and relies on components manufactured in the US.
Yamal-601, which will cost around R15 billion (€312 million), is due to be launched at the beginning of 2016 and will replace Yamal-202.
Sanctions prohibiting the export of dual-use goods, including high-tec, products, to Russia were imposed by the US in March.
They were subsequently also introduced by the EU at the end of July.
