Albania’s transition to digital broadcasting has suffered a setback.
According to the country’s Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), analogue switch off in the Tirana-Durrës districts, which was due to take place on June 30, has been put back for a short time.
Quoting Dritan Xhelili, the AMA’s director of the cabinet, it adds that although the conditions for digitising broadcasts in the districts have been in place for a number of months, take-up of reception equipment has been low despite an intense information campaign.
Meanwhile, simulcasting will start for a period of one month in the district of Berat.
Significantly, June 30 also marked the release of the digital dividend, which will provide the Albanian state’s coffers with millions of dollars.
