Sky has made a $2 million equity investment in connected device company Circle Media Labs.
The broadcaster says it will help provide it with “additional insights in the field”.
Based in Portland, United States, Circle is an early stage start-up that allows families to manage all of their home’s connected devices from a single app, meaning parents can filter content and limit screen time on their children’s devices, as well as pausing the Internet. The Circle product, available from Amazon and Best Buy, has already partnered with Disney,
It’s not expected that Sky will launch a similar product in Europe. Broadband TV News understands it shouldn’t be interpreted as a move into the territory currently occupied by Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home.
It’s the latest investment made by Sky in an early stage technology company that also includes Drone Racing League, Fubo TV and consumer electronics start-up Caavo.
