Dutch public broadcaster NPO is dropping support of its NPO app on smart TVs before 2014. The YouTube Flash app has also become obsolete.
According to the broadcaster, older smart TVs are not able to support the new functionalities of the app. TV sets from LG, Panasonic, Philips and Samsung from 2014 forward will be able to access the new app.
In a statement, NPO said owners of older TV sets have to turn to Chromecast or Airplay devices in order to continue to access NPO apps.
In a related development, Google said that its YouTube Flash app no longer works on smart Tv sets from 2012 and older. However, the newer, html5-based YouTube app still supports smart TVs from 2013 onwards
