Only around 3% of Polish viewers subscribe to SVOD services such as Netflix.
This, according to a new report entitled The future of television: the factors for change, produced by the Haltalska Foresight Institute in partnership with UPC Polska and OMD, is due to the widespread distribution of pirate streaming services, as well as language barriers, with most services being shown only in English.
The report found that traditional TV maintains a key role in Poland, being watched by close to 92% of the population, 62% daily and for an average of over four hours a day.
The report also found that people’s expectations about the future of TV vary widely. The most commonly given answer was the ability to automate and intelligently tailor programmes to viewers’ interests (24% of votes), while the least given answer was the ability to watch programmes with VR goggles (16%).
The youngest group (aged 15-18) said that there should be more opportunities to use TV apps to order services, while those aged 19-24 believed the future of TV should be mobile and provide high quality audio and video content.
The 25-34 and 35-44 age groups most often indicated that TV should intelligently adjust programmes to the viewers’ tastes and whether they are sitting next to adults or children. The oldest viewers surveyed said they expected to watch programmes in 360-degree technology.
