Poland’s leading cable association PIKE has called for an immediate halt to work on a new law on receiver licence fees.
Quoting a letter sent by the association’s president Jerzy Straszewski to the chairman of the Cabinet’s Standing Committee, Wirtualne Media reports no further action should be taken until the findings of a consultation by the European Commission on the law are known.
PIKE, along with the Polish pay-TV industry as a whole, objects to a requirement in the legislation for operators to provide information on their customers to Polish Post to assist the latter in the collection of receiver licence fees.
PIKE also points to a recent study by Kantar Millward Brown, undertaken on behalf of the association, that showed the law only has the support of 26% of the Polish population.
