The threat of Eutelsat cutting the distribution of Canal+ Reunion throughout the Indian Ocean region due to unpaid invoices has been lifted.
Quoting Axel Gallant, the MD of Canal+ Réunion, Clicanoo reports that the dispute between Eutelsat and Canal has been settled and distribution of the service, which has 450,000 subscribers in the area, will continue as normal.
Earlier this week, Les Echos had reported that, ahead of Vivendi’s AGM on Tuesday, Eutelsat would stop distributing Canal+ Réunion from April 27.
Clicanoo notes that Canal+ has had a difficult start to the year, with the Tribunal de Grand Instance in Paris ruling that it should pay €37.7 million to Parabole Réunion.
Its competitor had accused Canal of emptying TPS channels of their content, when they were bought back, based on a decision of the Competition Authority in 2011.
Parabole Réunion, which claimed €145 million, had appealed the decision, claiming that it had lost some 40,000 subscribers between 2006 and 2012.
