More than a quarter of German households (28%) are using streaming video services such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix or maxdome.
The fast majority of consumers (76%), though, still rely on classic linear television, according to a survey market research institute YouGov conducted on behalf of German news agency dpa among 2,070 people between April 10 and 12, 2017.
More than one third (35%) of the households use catch-up TV services and 11% subscribe to pay-TV offers, for example from Sky Deutschland.
The by far most-used streaming video service in Germany is Amazon Prime Video for which 64% of the streaming video users have opted. Netflix follows with 36% and maxdome from ProSiebenSat.1 with 15%. Other streaming video providers are used by 24%.
88% of households watch TV and video on the TV set. 41% use a PC or laptop and 17% each a smartphone or tablet.
Regarding TV reception methods, satellite (44%) and cable (43%) are almost equally popular. 6% of households use IPTV and 5% DTT.
