The number of subscribers receiving retransmitted TV services in Lithuania stood at 709,021 as of the end of 2016.
Furthermore, according to an annual report published by the country’s Radio and Television Commission (LRTK), the overwhelming number of TV subscribers (80.5%) received retransmitted TV services. The incumbent Teo (Telia) claimed a 31.5% share of the retransmitted TV services market. It was followed by Init (11.8%), Viasat (10.6%), Balticum TV (10.8%) and Splius (6%), with other providers accounting for the remainder (11%).
LRTK also says that as of the end of 2016 Lithuanian viewers could receive 11 unencrypted DTT channels. All told, 15 broadcasters offered a total of 22 TV channels via DTT.
Meanwhile, 20 broadcasters offered a total of 22 TV channels via cable and IPTV, three three TV channels via the internet and two three TV channels via satellite. In total, 35 broadcasters transmitted 47 TV channels.
The market was served by a total of 46 operators, licensed to provide services via a variety of technologies. Three had five DTT licences; two two MMDS licences; 20 a cable licence; 12 a cable licence despite their main activity not being the retransmission of radio and TV programmes; 11 for wired broadband networks; and one for satellite TV.
