Poland’s Cyfrowy Polsat has outlined its position in a consultation on the strategic plans by National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) for the years 2017-2022.
It welcomed a proposal by the regulator to create a more level playing field in a market in which foreign/global companies are currently seen to be at an advantage.
It also said all regulations covering the Polish TV and audiovisual market should be proportionate and that KRRiT’s plans to reinforce pluralism would in fact limit it.
In addition, they would strengthen the position of foreign broadcasters vis-à-vis Polish ones.
Cyfrowy Polsat also expressed concerns that KRRiT’s proposals would result in more take-overs of Polish media companies by foreign groups.
Crucially, it criticised the regulator for not setting any goals for tackling the problem of online piracy.
In its view, the KRRiT could play a crucial role by monitoring and limiting the placement of advertising carried by pirate services.
