German cable operator Unitymedia will make Netflix available as an app on its TV and media platform Horizon.
From mid-March 2017, customers will be able to access the video-on-demand (VOD) service through the Horizon HD recorder. Viewers will be able to sign up for Netflix as new customers or login using their existing Netflix account. For new customers, Netflix is free of charge for 30 days.
Netflix can be accessed on Horizon’s user interface through the Horizon app store, the channel bar or the EPG on slot 997.
Unitymedia’s parent company Liberty Global announced a multi-year partnership with Netflix in September 2016 to roll out the VOD service to its cable customers in more than 30 countries.
Swiss Unitymedia sister company UPC added a Netflix app to Horizon in December 2016, UPC in Austria will follow.
