German sports channel Sport1 will broadcast in Full HD quality on commercial channel platform Freenet TV launching on March 29, 2017 via DVB-T2 in Germany.
The carriage agreement has been signed between the Munich-based broadcaster and platform operator Media Broadcast.
The next-generation DTT service will offer around 20 unencrypted public channels and around 20 mainly encrypted commercial channels. Until the end of June 2017, reception of the encrypted commercial channels remains free of charge. From July, they will be offered for a monthly fee of €5.75.
Further 20 TV channels, catch-up portals and apps will be streamed to TV sets through OTT service Freenet Connect.
Viewers wanting to receive the encrypted commercial channels require a DVB-T2 receiver or TV module with the green Freenet TV logo. For Freenet Connect, the TV set or receiver has to be HbbTV-compliant and connected to the internet.
In mid-March 2017, a Freenet TV USB stick will become available for reception on PCs and laptops.
