The Russian DTH platform NTV-Plus will begin broadcasting three Ultra HD channels nationally from this spring.
Quoting Mikhail Demin, the company’s DG, speaking at CSTB 2017 in Moscow, ComNews reports that the three channels will be included in the platform’s basic package and at no additional cost.
In the first stage, they will be made available in Siberia in the middle of March.
They will then be introduced in April in the far east of the country and finally in May in the European part.
NTV-Plus will use one transponder each from three satellites – Express -AMU1, Express-AT1 and Express-AT2 – to distribute the channels. However, it has not yet released the names of the channels.
NTV-Plus will not be the first operator in Russia to offer its viewers Ultra HD services, with Tricolor TV having begun a trial in June 2013 and launched a service in November 2015.
MTS has also undertaken Ultra HD trials. However, NTV-Plus will be the first to offer channels in the format on a national basis.
