The number of IPTV homes grew with 18,000 during Q4 for KPN, but its DTT service Digitenne lost 14,000 subscribers.
KPN remains the second largest TV provider, after VodafoneZiggo, with 2.325 million TV customers, of which 2.005 take the Interactieve TV service via IP. The remaining 322,000 homes take Digitenne or another TV service. KPN also added 2,000 broadband homes during the quarter.
“KPN’s net adds in IPTV of 18k and broadband of 2k were driven by growth in the high value KPN brand in Q4 2016. KPN now has more than two million IPTV customers and the service has again been rated as the best TV product for nationwide operators by the Dutch Consumers’ Association (Consumentenbond). Bundled residential services resulted in a growing number of RGUs per household (2.16 vs. 2.07 in Q4 2015) and ARPU per household increased to EUR42 (Q4 2015: EUR40),” the company said in a statement.
Broadband TV Views. 2017 will see increased competition between KPN and VodafoneZiggo, especially with regards to the TV product. On January 1, KPN lost the linear and on-demand content from HBO, which is now exclusively available on the Ziggo cable network. KPN has responded by launching its own exclusive content service KPN Presenteert, featuring a high profile Dutch drama series Brussel, but it remains to be seen of this is attractive enough to compensate the loss of HBO
