The number of subscribers receiving subscription TV services in Portugal has risen by 159,000 new subscribers over the last 12 months.
Regulator Anacom said there were 3.6 million subscribers at the end of the third quarter.
The greatest increase has come from fibre-optic services that added a total of 220,000 subscribers, however cable remains the dominant means of delivery.
NOS group holds 43.5% of subscribers, followed by MEO, Vodafone and Cabovisão with 39.4%, 12.2% and 4.7%, respectively. Vodafone secured the greatest number of net subscribers on the quarter.
In late September, about 16.2% of households with pay-TV had access to premium channels (an increase of just 0.7 percentage points over the previous year), while 78.7% had more than 80 channels (An increase of 6.7 percentage points year-on-year).
About 3.2% of individuals aged 10 years or more had subscribed to on demand streaming services including (Netflix, Fox Play and Nplay).
In the 3rd quarter, 89.3% of subscribers to the subscription television signal distribution service had this integrated package service, totalling 3.25 million users.
Total revenues for the pay-TV distribution services totalled 1,342 million up 8.6% than on the same period in 2016.
