The Slovak DTH platform Magio Sat is likely to launch in the Czech Republic in 2017.
According to Zive, it will probably make its debut next spring and be distributed by Thor at 0.8 degrees West.
The latter’s services are already used by Magio Sat and Digi TV, both of which are operated by the incumbent Slovak Telekom, in Slovakia. In addition, it is used by UPC DTH’s freeSAT and the Czech version of Digi.
Zive points out that Slovak Telekom is already highly successful at providing TV services in its home market, claiming over 517,000 subscribers. At the same, its sister company T-Mobile has been selling IPTV services in the Czech market for the last few months.
It also says that while take-up is high in Slovakia, with only 10% of viewers receiving DTT services, it is reversed in the Czech Republic, where up 60% of viewers still opt for DTT and there is potential for growth in the pay-TV market.
