In answer to questions by Broadband TV News, Euronews has reacted to the recent online vote criticising the Lyon-based broadcaster.
“Euronews management note the vote and also that, we don’t clearly understand the panel but we understand that not all the employees were invited to vote – only the sites in Lyon and Brussels (so not all the offices as in Budapest, Athens, Paris etc – and not the administrative staff, not all the journalists, even some journalists from trade unions. We also inform that the total staff in Lyon and Brussels (permanent, non permanent, freelance) represents 818 persons (so 205 vote no)
As the organisers of the vote said on social media, “the vote is symbolic with no legal obligation”. Euronews management continues the negotiation with the trade unions and on Wednesday 4 out of 5 of the unions (representing 82,5% of the employees) signed an agreement about the social measures to accompany the social plan. The plan has also to be discussed on December 15 with the Employee representative Committee.”
