Shipments of Liberty Global’s new V6 box will take 83% of the cablenet’s new set-top deliveries, according to IHS Markit.
The analysis follows last Wednesday’s launch of the V6 as the vehicle for Virgin Media’s revamped TiVo service.
IHS says Virgin will ship 82,000 boxes in 2016 with the rest of Liberty Global contributing an overall 336,000. Next year’s belated analogue switch off by Unitymedia means while Virgin remains virtually unchanged in 2017 at 83,000, the remainder of the group will increase to 403,000.
It’s anticipated the V6 box will represent 80% of shipments
As reported in Broadband TV News, the new £99 V6 box will run the TiVo interface in the UK alongside a 1TB hard drive. It has the ability to record up to 6 shows while streaming a 7th. It supports both 4K content – drawn largely from Netflix and YouTube.
