Moldova’s fixed internet access market grew by 2.6% in the first nine months of this year to 548,000 subscribers.
Meanwhile, reports the regulator ANRCETI, sales in the sector amounted to MDL823.7 million (€37.8 million), a 5.7% increase on the corresponding period in 2015.
There were, in total, 80 providers of such services in the country. The highest growth in revenue terms was recorded by Sun Communications and Moldtelecom, with their combined total sales increasing by 21.3%.
ARPU from fixed internet services increased by 1.1% to MDL169.3.
Growth in the sector was driven by high-speed services, with the number of FTTx customers increasing by 6% to over 307,800, or 56% of the total. DOCSIS (cable) subscribers fell by over 5.6% to 37,300 and xDSL subcribers by 1.1% to 201,100.
ANRCETI classifies 30-100 Mbps has high speed and 47.9% of subscribers used such services.
In the first nine months of this year the market shares of fixed internet providers, in terms of turnover, were Moldtelcom with 64.2%, followed by Starnet Solutions (21.1%), Sun Communications (5.2%) and other providers (9.5%).
