Earlier this year, the broadcaster signed an MVNO agreement with Telefónica UK, known as O2.
Stephen van Rooyen, CEO, Sky UK & Ireland said Sky Homes told an investor day that mobile was the broadcaster’s nearest adjacent sector representing £15.2 million of revenue.
Sky’s own subscriber base accounts for 50% of the UK’s mobile contracts; two-thirds of Sky customers would consider a move to the new service.
Under the terms of the multi-year deal, Telefónica will give Sky wholesale access to 2G, 3G and 4G services; it will add to Sky’s existing broadband, fixed line and TV services. SIM and number management has now also been agreed and there are contracts with handset manufacturers Sky and Samsung.
