A joint venture between the Russian broadcaster VGTRK and telco Rostelecom hopes to make between $5-10 million on content sales abroad over the next three years.
However, report ComNews and AKTR, the investment in content the joint venture Digital TV will make is also likely to amount to several million dollars.
They add that Digital TV already has some 3,500 hours of programming of various genres in its library.
This will be localised into the most widely spoken languages in the world – English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, German, Indonesian, Japanese – by the end of this year.
Some animation has already been sold to China, where it is appearing on the LeEco platform.
Deals are also in the offing with a buyer in South Korea and a major player in the Middle East.
