1+1 Media has failed to secure permission from the Ukrainian Antimonopoly Committee (AMKU) to buy the DTH platform Viasat Ukraine.
According to Mediasat, 1+1 Media is still interested in acquiring the platform from Modern Times Group (MTG) but will have to first be allowed to do so by the country’s regulatory and antimonopoly authorities.
Quoting Yaroslav Paholchuk, the director of 1+1 Media, it adds that the two parties signed an agreement in March this year, since when the AMKU has refused to give permission for the deal to be completed.
1+1 Media regularly submits requests and documents to the AMKU and will provide it with new documents shortly.
MTG made its intention to sell Viasat Ukraine in early March.
Since then, it has begun to move channels from Astra 4A (4.8 degrees East) to Amos 3 (4 degrees West).
1+1 Media is owned by the businessman Igor Kolomoisky and a leading player in Ukraine’s TV industry.
