Greece’s OTE saw a sharp year-on-year rise in its TV customer total in Q2 in its home market, while in Romania the increase was more modest.
In Greece, the incumbent ended Q2 with 458,920 cable and satellite subscribers to OTE TV, or 21.6% more than a year earlier.
However, a recently introduced additional tax on pay-TV services has had an unfavourable impact on new subscriber additions, already evident in Q2.
Meanwhile in Romania, the incumbent telco Telekom Romania, backed by OTE and ultimately Deutsche Telekom, saw its TV subscriber total in Q2 increase by 2.8% year-on-year to 1,461,287.
Significantly, its fixed-mobile convergence solution subscriber total grew by 126% over the same period to 1,461,287.
Telekom Romania’s revenues in Q2 amounted to €149.5 million (-0.7%), while EBITDA was €11 million (-55.5%).
Its operating loss increased from €9.9m to €25.6 million.
TV revenues were unchanged on a year earlier.
Overall, OTE group had an income of €954.7 million (+0.1%) in Q2 , while its EBITDA was €310.9 million (-2.4%).
Its net income was €33.6 million, compared to a net loss of €3.6 million in Q2 2015.
