The number of customers who watch the TV service operated by the Czech incumbent O2 has for the first time exceeded half a million.
The latest results published by the company show that as of the end of June the O2 TV fixed line and OTT customer total, in the latter case using an internet connection from any provider, stood at 217,000, or 14.4% more than a year earlier.
This number also included customers who subscribed for the free service within special “Try and Keep” promotion and decided to switch to a paid tariff.
A complementary service called Multi that enables customers watching TV on more TV sets at one time also became very popular. More than 30,000 customers subscribed to it, and as a result O2 had almost 250 thousand active set top boxes.
O2 TV was also watched via the internet or mobile apps, or in Staropramen restaurants, pubs and bars. In the former case, the number of viewers increased by two and a half times year on year to a total of nearly 300,000 as of June 30.
Meanwhile, the number of xDSL subscribers stood at 782,000 as of the end of June.
O2, which is also present in Slovakia, has operating revenues of CZK18.223 billion (€673.91 million) in H1 2016, down 0.9% of the same period last year.
Its EBITDA was CZK5.053 billion (+4.7%) and net profit CZK2.552 billion (+9.8%).
