The service was envisaged by JeanDavid Blanc, founder of AlloCiné, and Pierre Lescure, founder of Canal+, who aim to do disrupt the current TV distribution offering in the country.
Molotov.tv’s basic tier is free of charge and comprises 35 channels, including all channels that are available on the nation’s digital terrestrial network TNT. In addition, an extended tier is available, for €9.99, offering more than 70 channels, including Paramount Channel, Disney Channel, TCM Cinéma, BET, Game One, and more.
The platform also plans to offer premium channels from Canal+ and Bein Sports, but no details are yet available. The plan is to offer these channels without a contract, to be available on a month-by-month basis.
Apart from streaming live channels, viewers can also re-start a programme from the beginning as well as catch-up older broadcasts.
Other features include the possibility to record up to 100 hours of programming in the cloud for later viewing, costing €3.99 a month.
