German video-on-demand (VOD) service maxdome will provide the yearly almost 80 million travellers on Deutsche Bahn’s high-speed ICE trains with movies and series from the end of 2016.
Through an exclusive contract signed with Deutsche Bahn, the ProSiebenSat.1 subsidiary will become the first and only video service on the ICE multimedia portal. The content will be streamed from local servers aboard the train through Wi-Fi with no internet connection required.
“maxdome on the train will offer significant added value to customers: They can enjoy movies and series without having to download a title first, without mobile data volume being used up and without interruptions in tunnels – it can’t get more comfortable,” maxdome’s managing director Marvin Lange said in Munich.
“Through the collaboration with Deutsche Bahn, we continue our distribution offensive and clearly differentiate us from competition,” added fellow managing director Filmon Zerai.
The service will enable train travellers to access selected content during the journey on their laptop, tablet or smartphone even if they are not a maxdome subscriber. 50 regularly renewed films and series are provided free of charge. Up to 1,000 titles are available to existing maxdome subscribers. Non-customers may sign up for a free 1-month trial subscription on the train.
