Germany’s Wisi Communications is to further expand its Multiscreen and OTT offer.
It’s emerged that earlier this year the firm acquired authentication, packaging, network DVR and provisioning software from US based Aereo, the controversial retransmission service that entered Chapter 11 in 2014.
Wisi has now wrapped its newly acquired assets into what’s now known as Project Katamaran.
“There are a lot of moving parts to streaming video delivery and many small companies trying to do their own little piece. This can make it challenging for independent operators to separate the stable and reliable solutions from the noise,” said John Pomeroy, VP of Multiscreen Infrastructure at Wisi. “We asked ourselves how these products could be done better, in a cost effective and proven way. Globally, independent operators have been asking for an end-to-end platform that scales from a few thousand to a few hundred thousand subscribers. To meet that demand, we acquired these assets, giving us a huge advantage over the rest of the market.”
Aereo founders Chet Kanojia and Joe Lipowski spent $35 million on their investment. Other parts of Aereo have been sold to TiVo.
As part of Project Katamaran Wisi is offering Turn-key end to end, integration with existing systems through industry standard interfaces, and partial or complete cloud SaaS solutions.
