Portuguese cablenet NOS has launched a new 4K set-top box that’s built on the RDK platform, the first European operator to do so.
NOS has chosen the Arris ZD4500 HEVC that features middleware from Espial and content security supplied by Nagra.
The former ZON Multimedia had previous run the NDS/Cisco Snowflake UI.
“Arris is our long-term, strategic partner for delivering new broadband and TV services in Portugal, and brings leadership in RDK, 4K and advanced DOCSIS solutions to our latest, transformative service. For the transition to 4K video, we selected Arris’s HEVC set-tops to unite our new application framework and user interface and bring our subscribers the future of TV,” said Pedro Bandeira, Development Director, NOS. “Arris has delivered an exceptional level of support to ensure the success of our 4K service launch.”
The Arris ZD4500 set-top integrates with the new RDK 2.1-based application framework from Espial and NOS’s new immersive user interface to offer an intuitive and exciting entertainment experience for NOS subscribers.
“Our close collaboration with NOS ensures a seamless integration of hardware, application framework, and UI as we usher in a new 4K era for Portugal,” said Steve McCaffery, Managing Director of International Sales and Business Operations for Arris’s International Business Operations Group. “Bringing our global RDK experience to Europe, combined with our expertise in HEVC ensures NOS can deliver the compelling experience that 4K promises.”
