Orange, MyTF1VOD and Netflix were the biggest winners in France’s VOD market in 2015.
According to ZD Net, quoting data produced by CNC-Harris Interactive, Orange ended the year as the leading service, claiming 27% of users aged 15+.
This was up from 24.6% a year earlier. Meanwhile, MyTF1VOD remained in second place, with its share rising from 22.4% to 26.4%, and Netflix grew strongly, its 25.8% share, compared to 6.2% a year earlier, placing it in third place.
The gap between Orange and the TF1 platform was reduced significantly last year, which also saw the launch of several new services.
Orange’s success is put down to millions of deployed boxes, with TF1 also benefitting from Free, Numericable and Bouygues.
Zive, a new market entrant launched amid great fanfare, ended 2015 in 19th place with a market share of only 0.2%.
Significantly, the two Canal services, placed fourth and fifth, would have had a market share of 38.8% (CanalPlay VOD, 20.3% and CanalPlay 18.5%) if added together.
Particularly notable in the 19 top services was the absence of Fnac, Carrefour and the well-known Wuaki.
