BT TV has reached 1.5 million customers, an increase of 28% over the last year.
66,000 TV customers were added during the quarter, driven by BT Sport Europe and last summer’s launch of BT Sport Ultra HD.
Annual revenues across the group, which now includes mobile operator EE from January 29, were up 6% at, £18.909 million. This delivered pre-tax profits of £3,473 million.
Audiences for BT Sport’s exclusive coverage of UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League have grown by 45% year on year from the start of the football season in August to the end of March.
“We’ve invested across the business and are seeing good results. Our BT Sport audiences are up 45 per cent this year following the launch of UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League content. BT Mobile has done well since its launch, building a customer base of over 400,000.”
BT says it will pump £6 billion into fibre services and 4G services; 2 million households will get fibre-to-the-home.
Peak concurrent viewing was above one million viewers during 39 match nights. The highest audience for the season to date is the Premier League tie between Manchester United and Chelsea, which achieved an in-match audience of 1.54 million and peaked at 1.74 million.
