A French version of recently launched alternative news channel Viceland is being planned by the media investor Matthieu Pigasse.
Les Echos says the investment banker wants to build on recent investments in Le Monde, L’Observateur (seen as a French Huffington Post) and Radio Nova by launching a dedicated French edition of the web spin-off.
Pigasse’s plan would draw on the resources both of Vice Media and Radio Nova to produce a distinctive offering.
Vice made its debut in France in 2014, initially as an alternative media, before finding investment from Disney and Hearst.
Last week it was announced that Sky would carry a UK version of Viceland when it launches in September.
