Mediaset has defied the conditions of a DTT licence it was issued by Spain’s Ministry of Industry last October.
El Economista reports that since then the company used the awarded frequencies to broadcast the children’s channel Boing between November 27 and January 6. Subsequently, it broadcast Energy, another channel it was also already operating, on the same frequencies.
Other operators have apparently been shocked by the authorities’ decision to turn a blind eye to what they say are a clear breach of licence conditions.
A total of six DTT licences, three each for HD and SD channels, were awarded last October. The winners, alongside Mediaset, were Atresmedia, Real Madrid, 13 TV, Radio Blanca (Kiss TV) and Sequoia.
To date, only Atresmedia has launched a channel, with Atreseries making its debut on December 22.
Meanwhile, all the other companies, with the exception of Mediaset, have made their plans known.
