Germany’s largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland continued to grow in the last three months of 2015 mainly through the selling of internet and telephony subscriptions.
The number of internet customers rose by 96,000 to 2.9 million including 16,000 households which migrated from ADSL access by parent company Vodafone to internet via cable.
For its telephony segment, Kabel Deutschland recorded an increase by 99,000 customers to a total of 2.8 million customers.
The number of premium TV customers (pay-TV, DVR) rose by 46,000 to 2.6 million. 2.2 million customers have opted to receive the HD versions of commercial free-to-air TV channels like RTL, Sat.1 and ProSieben for an extra fee.
Kabel Deutschland, however, didn’t manage to halt the decline in classic cable TV subscriptions and lost 20,000 customers in the basic cable segment in the last quarter of 2015. In the past 12 months, a total of 155,000 TV customers turned their back at the Vodafone subsidiary. Kabel Deutschland is now left with 8 million basic cable customers.
