SES Techcom Services, the technical services subsidiary of satellite operator SES, and Solarkiosk, a German energy and business gateway provider targeting underserved communities, have entered into a two-year partnership to deliver internet connectivity to remote and isolated areas worldwide.
Under the agreement, Solarkiosk will use SES satellites to deliver internet access to rural communities, initially in Africa. This will be done via Solarkiosk’s E-Hubb structures – designed by Berlin-based architecture firm Graft – which use solar technology to provide electricity for various systems including the satellite dish.
According to SES Techcom Services and Solarkiosk, their partnership is the first of many steps to deliver off-grid, connected solar infrastructure solutions for underserved communities worldwide, providing individual users, businesses, schools, medical centres and farms with basic services such as education, healthcare, internet connectivity and satellite TV.
