SES and Hispasat will broadcast Saturday’s Real Madrid vs. Barcelona football match in Ultra High Definition (Ultra HD/4K).
Spanish production company Mediapro will shoot the match in UltraHD and it will be made available worldwide via Hispasat, who will provide contribution services through their Hispasat 1D satellite and Mediapro will distribute the signal across the globe. Broadcasters in Germany, Switzerland and Hong Kong have already confirmed their interest in providing images in 4K.
In Europe, the signal will be available on the Astra 1L satellite at 19.2 degrees East.
In Spain, the match, also known as El Clásico, will also be available to Movistar+ subscribers on FttH, who have a Samsung Ultra HD smart TV with the Movistar+ Ready app.
“A test live broadcast of a football match in Ultra High Definition marks another milestone in the introduction of this new technology in Spain, as well as in Europe, and shows the readiness of the Ultra HD ecosystem,” said Luis Sahún, general manager of Spain at SES.
“Thanks to satellite and its ability to cost-effectively deliver the best quality content to a large audience, it is only a matter of time before the live broadcast of Ultra HD content becomes part of our daily TV viewing experience.”
