Polish viewers want to see top quality international channels such as Discovery, National Geographic and AXN available on DTT, according to the findings of the second Cyfrowizja project undertaken by the media agency MEC.
Undertaken in late October, just prior to the award of licences for the country’s eighth DTT multiplex, the project also shows that 70% of all viewers and close to 90% of those who watch DTT say that the FTA offer in Poland is now better than before.
Even among cable and DTH viewers, around 60% hold the same view, which is most widely held in small towns and among those aged 15-24.
Although TVN and Polsat are still the most watched DTT services, Fokus TV, and to a lesser degree Puls and TV4, are also gaining in popularity.
Asked about what genres are lacking on DTT in terms of availability, respondents identified documentaries, natural history and travel (37%), foreign movies (30%), Polish films (24%) and sport (22%) as top of the list, with the latter most felt by male viewers.
They identified Discovery (44%) as the channel they would most like to see on DTT, followed by National Geographic (33%), AXN (17%) and Eurosport (16%).
Significantly, almost half said they had no preference as to whether foreign or Polish channels should be added to the DTT offer. One third favoured Polish channels and 18% foreign ones.
