Asian satellite operator AsiaSat and German technology company Rohde & Schwarz have teamed up to create the first free-to-air Ultra HD platform on AsiaSat 4 (122° East).
A TV channel will launch on the platform this month, marking the first Ultra HD service on AsiaSat. The channel will be uplinked from Tai Po earth station in Hong Kong (pictured).
Rohde & Schwarz is providing a comprehensive broadcast solution that includes the R&S Clipster mastering station for editing, handling and playing out Ultra HD data in real time. The R&S AVHE100 headend will be used for live encoding using an HEVC encoder with 10 bit color depth.
AsiaSat 4 provides TV distribution, DTH and broadband services throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Its C-band footprint spans from New Zealand to Pakistan and part of the Middle East.
