After initially adopting a defensive strategy, UPC is now actively engaged in expanding its activities in Romania.
According to ZF, it has increased its infrastructure by almost 25%, or half a million households, in the last three years.
Furthermore, it not only grows through the acquisition of smaller players but also actively seeks to attract customers from rival operators.
The latter include Digital Cable Systems (DCS, which operates under the brand name AKTA), from which it may have taken hundreds if not thousands of clients.
Quoting the Official Gazette, ZF adds that in July UPC approved the opening of new branches in Covasna, Dambovita and Prahova.
UPC’s network in Romania covered 2.5 million households as of the end of Q2, or 22% more than in 2010. Of these, 2.4 million (+50%) could be provided with digital cable and broadband services.
UPC is one of the three largest players in Romania’s electronic communications marketplace, with its main competitors being RCS&RDS and Telekom Romania, formerly known as Romtelecom.
