The Czech DTH platform Digi TV has finally been relaunched as Nová Digi TV.
Previously owned by Romania’s RCS&RDS, it was acquired by the Czech Lama Energy Group earlier this year.
The group has allocated an initial CZK300 million (€11 million) to migrate up to 15,000 customers to a new technology platform in what is termed a “logistically challenging operation”.
Involvng the exchange of old set-top boxes for new reception equipment, it will be undertaken by over 100 internal technicians assisted by outside contractors.
Nová Digi TV is working closely with Slovak Telekom as both use the same platform technology. Alongside this, they are jointly negotiating for the acquisition of sports rights in order to achieve more favourable terms.
Existing subscribers will receive new set-top boxes – or CAMs from November 1 – for a monthly fee of CZK49.
Nová Digi TV’s basic package costs CZK299 a month and offers viewers 73 channels, many of which are in HD.
It is the only service in the Czech Republic to offer live coverage of the English Premier League.
