Portugal added another 54,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2015, with fibre-optic services to thank for the rise.
Regulator Anacom says that as of March 30, 2015 there were 3.404 million subscribers to subscription TV in Portugal. The number has grown by 194,000 in the last 12 months.
While all platforms have seen growth, it’s the fibre optic services that have benefitted the most, gaining 7% quarter on quarter to reach 671,000.
The number of subscribers to cable television networks increased for the first time since mid-2012 and now stands at 1.370 million.
Cable remains the dominant platform with 40.2% of all subscribers, xDSL holds 22.3%, fibre-optic 20% and DTH 17%.
It is estimated that around 84.5% of subscribers to the subscription television service received the service as part of a bundle.
