French regulator CSA has issued a call for channels wanting to broadcast on the terrestrial TNT system in the HD format.
It comes ahead of plans to end the simulcast of HD and SD services as spectrum currently used for television services is reallocated by the Government. Capacity between 694 and 790MHz, the so called 700MHz, is being handed over to the telecoms sector. From April 2016, MPEG-4 compression will become standard for DTT broadcasting.
The Higher Audiovisual Council said it would pay particular attention to improving services for viewers and providing continuity with services already on the air.
Applications must be submitted by 5pm on June 29, 2015.
