Telefonica has purchased a 56% stake in Distribuidora de Televisin Digital SA (DTS), better known as Prisa’s pay-TV platform Digital+.
The purchase prise was €706.8 million.
It follows months of negotiations with Spain’s Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC), which finally rubber stamped the purchase last week.
Under conditions set by the CNMC, Telefonica will pick up Canal Plus Espana’s obligation to invest in the production of Spanish language movies and TV.
It must also wholesale at least 50% of its content to rival pay-TV operators.
