Amazon has launched its Fire TV Stick into the UK market.
Customers can now order the product from the Amazon website with shipment expected on or after April 15, 2015. It’s being priced at £35, though members of the Amazon Prime service that bundles speedier deliveries with Amazon’s TV service, can receive the product for £19. Some sources have suggested £7, but Broadband TV News saw no such offer on the Amazon website.
UK Content comes from the BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, Netflix, Curzon Home Cinema and of course Amazon’s own Instant Video.
Key content providers apparently missing are ITV – instead there’s the Scottish version STV – and Channel 4 that will this week relaunch its 4oD service. Now TV and the Sky Store are also absent.
The streaming dongle is plugged into the TV set’s HDMI slot. The internet connection is established through the household’s local Wi-Fi network.
It has also launched in Austria and Germany.
