Deutsche Telekom will launch a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service for children between 3 and 13 years of age in collaboration with German publishing house Burda in early April 2015.
myKIDIO will offer movies, series, TV shows, audiobooks and radio plays to provide entertainment, for example during long car rides. Besides streaming, the app will also contain an offline mode.
The content will be provided by rights holders such as Sony Music, ZDF Enterprises, Bavaria Media, WDR mediagroup, RBB Media, DEFA, Lübbe Audio and Kiddinx.
The myKIDIO app which was developed by UK-based multi-platform video solutions provider Saffron Digital in partnership with Deutsche Telekom Business Development and Innovation will be available for smartphones and tablets (iOS/Android) from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
In BMW cars, the OTT service will be integrated directly into the onboard entertainment and information platform BMW ConnectedDrive.
Access will cost €8.99 per month; the subscription can be cancelled monthly. There will also be a 2-week ticket for €5.99. A user account will enable access on up to three devices at the same time.
After Videoload which offers movies, TV series and other content for rent and purchase, myKIDIO will be Deutsche Telekom’s second video-on-demand service.
