Magyar Telekom has been fined HUF160 million (€521,170) for violating regulations and contract conditions by limiting electronic communications services.
In a statement, the regulator NMHH says that follows an investigation into the Hungarian incumbent’s services, including cable TV, IPTV and DTH, in the period October 1 to December 31, 2013.
It adds that it looked at the company’s activities as a whole, rather than individual cases, and says that Magyar Telekom was cooperative during the investigation.
The NMHH also says that electronic communications services can only be restricted by providers only after subscribers have been informed about outstanding invoices and 30 days after they have failed to pay them.
In addition, the NMHH says that the head of Magyar Telekom has been fined an additional HUF2 million as this is not the first time the telco has been found guilty of violating regulations and contract conditions.
