Internet access was the main growth driver at Switzerland’s largest cable operator UPC Cablecom in Q3 2014.
The Liberty Global subsidiary acquired 16,700 new customers for its broadband internet service which thereby rose by 2.4% to a total of 717,200 customers.
The number of telephony customers, however, dropped by 600 to 465,500 customers, just like the number of TV customers which declined by 4,800 to 1.41 million. The figures reflect the strong competition with IPTV providers such as Swisscom and Sunrise.
Multimedia box Horizon is now in more than 200,000 Swiss households. UPC Cablecom introduced the device combining TV, internet and telephony in January 2013.
