Sport has historically always garnered the biggest TV audiences and the last 12 months have been no exception. World Cup Football in Brazil broke new TV audience records worldwide, while the Winter Olympics in Sochi and the circuit of regular events, including Grand Slam tennis, the Ryder Cup and Formula 1, continued to drive up viewing of live events and interaction with social networks.
Sport is also in the avant-garde of next-generation television, with Ultra HD transmissions of World Cup matches, Moto GP and Roland Garros showing how more pixels and 10-bit colour depth are creating an even more immersive experience.
It’s no surprise that the Sports category for this year’s Eutelsat TV Awards was one of the most competitive, with four channels shortlisted to win this prestigious prize: Eurosport from France, Latin American Sports from Mexico, NTV-Plus Futbol 1 HD from Russia and Sky Sport Moto GP from Italy.
