Russia’s Ministry of Communications (Minsvyaz) is to set up a working group to look into the development of the media industry with the participation of foreign capital.
The move follows a meeting held last Friday (October 10) attended by Nikolai Nikiforov, the head of the ministry, his deputy Alexei Volin and various representatives of the media industry to discuss a controversial new law that will place a 20% limit on foreign stakes in Russian media outlets.
The legislation, which now just awaits President Putin’s signature, will come into effect at the beginning of 2016.
