The UK’s leading mobile operator EE has announced that it will launch a TV service this autumn.
Delivered through a set-top box provided by Netgem, EE TV will work seamlessly with up to three compatible tablets or phones, offering viewers over 70 live TV (Freeview) channels, pause, rewind, record, catch-up and on demand with HD quality. It will be available free with EE Broadband for £9.95 a month plus £15.75 line rental.
EE TV will allow the company to enter the quad-play market, which is still in its early stages in the country, and in due course compete more effectively with the likes of BT and Virgin Media. However, unlike BT, for instance, which has spent around £2 billion (€2.54 billion) on sports content in order to establish itself as a strong player in the pay-TV market, EE is initially offering a limited amount of content.
Both BT and Sky are also expected to soon enter the quad-play market.
