The Swiss cable operators have won a total of 100,300 new internet customers in the past 12 months.
On 30 June 2014, 1.1 million households surfed the net through a cable subscription – an increase by 9.9% within one year, according to industry association Swisscable.
The Swiss cable operators offer internet access with a data rate of at least 100Mbps for around 2.5 million households, in some areas up to 250Mbps.
The number of telephony customers rose by 52,700 to 653,000 in the past 12 months – an increase by 8.8%.
For classic cable television, however, the cable operators reported a loss of 29,800 customers. The decrease by 1.1% to 2.7 million customers is mainly the result of strong competition from IPTV competitors such as Swisscom and Sunrise.
Switzerland’s national telco Swisscom which also posted its latest figures acquired 189,000 new customers of its IPTV platform Swisscom TV in the past 12 months. In Q2 2014 alone, 39,000 new customers were added. The offering now reaches a total of 1.1 million households.
Swisscom increased its number of broadband internet customers in Q2 2014 by 22,000 to a total of 1.9 million customers.
